TODAY IN DESIGN 1925

The Dawn of Automated Photography: Anatol M Josepho's Photomaton.

On January 17, 1928, a leap forward in photographic technology was marked by the granting of a patent to Anatol M Josepho for the "Photomaton," the first fully automatic photographic film processing machine. This invention revolutionized the world of photography, making it possible for individuals to obtain photographs quickly and without the need for a photographer. The Photomaton, an early version of what we now know as the photo booth, offered a novel and accessible way for people to capture moments in time, significantly impacting the culture of personal photography. Josepho's invention was not just a technological breakthrough; it was a milestone in the democratization of photography, paving the way for future innovations in automated image capture and processing.
