Grok arrives on iOS and it’s pretty damn good.

So, xAI, Elon Musk's brainchild, has just dropped its Grok chatbot as a standalone iOS app in the U.S. Previously, you had to be on X (formerly Twitter) to play with Grok, but now it's free for all iPhone users. This move puts Grok in the ring with heavyweights like ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude.

Now, about that xAI logo sitting on your home screen—it's causing quite a stir. I don’t hate it. There I said it. But I really wish it didn’t have the text label in the X tab bar - that’s brutal.

When it comes to user experience, Grok sets itself apart from ChatGPT by weaving in real-time data from X and offering nifty features like image generation right within the app. ChatGPT is no slouch, but Grok's seamless integration with social media and up-to-the-minute info gives it a unique edge. I’m excited to see how the design experience of these chat-based interfaces evolve.
