Andy Warhol: A Titan of Twentieth-Century Art Passes Away.

On February 22, 1987, the art world lost one of its most iconic figures, Andy Warhol, an American painter, photographer, and leading figure of the Pop Art movement. Born in 1928, Warhol transformed contemporary art by merging the realms of fine art, celebrity culture, and advertising. His works, from the Campbell's Soup Cans to portraits of Marilyn Monroe, challenged traditional distinctions between high and low art. Warhol's innovative use of media, including silk screening and photography, and his exploration of themes like consumerism and replication, left an indelible mark on the twentieth century's visual landscape. His passing signaled the end of an era but his legacy endures, continually influencing artists and the cultural zeitgeist.
